was passed April 16th, 1881, giving the Central District Telegraph Company a right-of-way from Baden Station to J. H. Dippold's lane. In May of this same year the Street Commissioner was authorized to purchase a suitable scraper and a plow for working the roads.

January 3rd, 1885, Mr. Gallagher presented a claim for watering trough he kept up for public use, but it was decided nothing would be done about this claim until the present trough was replaced with one complying with the law in regards to length, breadth and depth.

April 11th, 1885, the Secretary of council was instructed to notify Mr. J. Harper that they thought his bill for surveying last summer was $5.00 too much, and that if he reduced the bill from $22.50 to $17.50 Council would grant him warrant for that amount. In the records of this same year $1.25 was paid for a day's labor on the street, $3.50 for a two horse team, and $2.00 for one horse and cart. No boy under 18 was permitted to work on the street, and any man unable to do a day's work would only be permitted to work out his own taxes.

A matter for consideration on May 16th, 1885, was the ground belonging to the Lutheran church, and the council concluded that it was worth $12.00 and no more for the se of the Borough for street purposes. (This was the old site of the church and the roadway up to the Burkhart Plan, now Schiller Street was by means of a small road across the street from what is now Martin's Store, running parallel to State Street to Rotteck Street then up the hill on Rotteck Street). Three streets on the Burkhart Plan were named Forest, Chestnut and Market Streets. At a special meeting held May 30th, John M. Scott, Clerk of Courts of Beaver County, presented a bill for trying the legality of an election held in Baden in February, 1885, in amount of $25.00, dated July 11th.

The Town Council granted November 7th, 1885, to the H. A. Bryan Gas Company the privilege of laying gas lines through the streets of the Borough, the said company to give the Borough free gas for four lights, lamps and posts to be furnished and placed by the Council, the Gas Company to have the sole and exclusive right to lay their lines throughout the streets, and to furnish to consumers gas at the same rate or rats as the Bridgewater Gas Company is selling it gas in other towns in Beaver County. This grant was rescinded at a special meeting held November 25th, 1885. Several other gas companies applied for permits for lines in the Borough, but nothing came of this matter until April 17th, 1886, Council received an acceptance of an ordinance allowing the Baden Gas Company to lay a low pressure gas line through the Borough together with a bond of indemnity in amount of $10,000.00. June 5th, 1886, Council located three Public Gas Posts and Lamps, one at State and Schiller Streets, one at Schiller and Milton Streets and one at Schiller and Jefferson Streets. At the same meeting the Street Committee was instructed to provide suitable foot crossing over State Street, also build a flight of steps making Schiller Street accessible from State Street. July 3rd, the same year, twelve more gas lights were located, at the following places: Strock & Blazier's Store, Grim's Stable, M. E. Church, Lutheran Church, Mrs.
