FOREWARD
THIS BOOK, a record of the settlement, the founding and the activities of the town of Baden from
the date of the earliest settlement to our present Centennial year, had its inspiration in the
historical program presented under the supervision of Mrs. Edna Coffey at a meeting of the
Woman's Club of Baden in February of 1937. Her program was divided into three parts, the
history of Baden as part of the Pennsylvania Depreciation Lands; the history of the incorporation
of Baden and Baden as it is today; and certain members of the club and other residents of Baden
were selected to read original papers dealing with the many interesting events and people
related to these three epochs.
These papers have formed the nucleus of this book and they have been gathered together, elected,
and in a measure supplemented by Mrs. Coffey. It is her hope and ours that it may prove of wide
interest to all of our townspeople and may stimulate further research and interest in a most
glorious past.
