Many of our Baden residents, past and present, have been and are affiliated with the Pennsylvania Railroad. From the earliest days of the railroad's history, Baden has been the choice of residence chosen by many of its employees.

The Baden Volunteer Fire Department
and the Ladies' Auxiliary

The original Baden Volunteer Fire Department had its inception on December 30, 1907. On that day, Dr. Boal, then President of Council, appointed a committee of 30 citizens to organize a Volunteer Fire Department.

On January 4, 1908, 56 citizens held their meeting and organized the First Baden Volunteer Fire Department. On May 12, 1908, this organization adopted a set of By-Laws and a Constitution under which the Volunteer Fire Department has been operating to date.

The following men made up the original charter membership with John B. Landers being elected chief:

On Sept. 21, 1908, council appropriated the sum of $360.00 for the construction of a building on Phillips Street to house the Fire Department's equipment consisting at that time of two hand hose carts, hose and other apparatus, also to serve the members of the department as a meeting place.

During the year 1909 a second-hand one-horse ladder truck was purchased from the Millvale Fire Department.

This Fire Department operated as a single unit until 1910, at which time the membership was divided into three companies, known as companies 1 and 2 and ladder truck company.
