The first officers were: President, Mrs. Walter R. Shephard; first vice president, Mr. H. L. Kemp; second vice president, Mrs. Carl Schoenfeld; secretary, Mrs. C. J. Dumeyer; treasurer, Mrs. Victor Pate; historian, Mrs. Fred Hulet; Chaplain, Mrs. James L. Marr; and sergeant-at-arms, Mrs. Charles Storar.

The unit now has twenty-seven members.

The present officers are: President, Mrs. James L. Marr; vice-presidents, Mrs. C. P. Dumeyer and Mrs. S. Overholt; secretary, Mrs. M. A. LaVelle; treasurer, Mrs. William Hood; chaplain, Mrs. F. Puhlman; sergeant-at-arms, Mrs. Carl Schoenfeld; and historian, Mrs. David M. Woods.

During the three and one-half years of the Auxiliary's existence there has been a steady growth in its activities.

Aid has been given to needy families. Donations and gifts have been sent systematically to several Veterans' Hospitals. Each spring a medal is awarded to the outstanding girl in the eighth grade of the Baden Public Schools.

The members work hand in hand with the American Legion.

The above is merely an outline of the work of the Auxiliary. Much of the work cannot be told because of its personal nature.

The purpose and aims of the Legion Auxiliary are: to help care for those pale, broken men who gave their health for their country; to look after the children whose fathers were taken for a greater duty; to aid in the development of this great country for which so many have been willing to die; to raise a voice for the maintenance of its defense; to assist in fostering its international friendships and to stand guard over its principles and ideals.

THE BOY SCOUTS OF BADEN

Scouting was first organized in England by Sir Baden Powell in 1910, having this year (1938) celebrated its 28th anniversary.

Shortly thereafter Scouting was established in the United States, being one of three organizations to be given a Federal Charter by Congress.

In 1916 Beaver County Council, Boy Scouts of America was organized, with Prof. Bayle, Superintendent of Ambridge Schools, as President, and Baden was represented on this County Council.

The same year the first troop in Baden was organized with J. L. McCreary as Scout Master. Members of Baden Scout Committee were Walter Urling, Cecil Hubbard and H. C. Machesney.

A meeting place for the troop was provided in part of the building formerly used by the congregation of the Methodist Episcopal Church, on State Street. This troop operated for several years under Scout-masters McCreary, Lynn Leacock and Walter Urling. About 1922 the
