Baden's First 100 YearsPage Sixty-five
On February 17, 1937, at 8:00 P.M., our Club presented a splendid "History of Baden" program, under the supervision of Mrs. Edna Coffey. This meeting was open to the public, and much of the material presented at that meeting, is being used as a foundation for the Baden Centennial History. The Woman's Club special project is the building up of the public school library. In 1936, 54 volumes were presented, 1937, 40 volumes, and in 1938, 38 volumes. A gift of 24 volumes from Mrs. And Mrs. H. C. Machesney was also added in 1938. An additional project this year was carried out by the Conservation and Gardens Committee, with Mrs. R. W. Snyder and Mrs. J. H. Leacock serving as chairmen, that of "Tree Planting." The Club has bought and had planted on the Baden school grounds, four Oriental Planes, in honor of our four past presidents, and one Silver Maple as a "Constitution Tree." On April 8, 1938, Mrs. C. M. Cook, Club president, dedicated the trees and presented them to the school. In cooperation with the Junior Woman's Club of Baden, a red dogwood was planted on each of the church lawns, the Christ Lutheran Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, and Mt. Gallitzin Academy. During the five years of the Club's existence there has been a steady growth of its activities and finances; also the membership now consists of 96 active, 12 associate and two honorary members. There are now 14 standing committees, as
