NATIONAL AIR MAIL WEEKNational Air Mail Week in commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the first flight of air mail was held May 15 and 21, 1938. One event which made this week notable was the first flight of air mail from an airport near each post office on May 19th. Our air mail was carried by plane from Conway Airport to the Pittsburgh-Butler Airport at Butler, Pa., then transferred to a plane connecting with Pittsburgh, Pa. We sent one hundred and sixty-eight letters on our first flight from Baden, Pa. Also, for the first time in the history of the department, each post office was allowed to have their own cachet for that week. This cachet was to represent some historical or interesting event of special interest to the people of their own city or town. Mr. Samuel McKee, chairman of the Centennial Committee, proposed that we use a cachet in honor of our Centennial Celebration to be held this year. This would help to make our Air Mail Week a success, and also, advertise the Centennial. Each organization in the town and all the citizens were asked to cooperate in making this an outstanding event. We are grateful to the people for the interest they showed in mailing air letters during this week. A large percentage of families sent at least one letter, and many of them sent five or more. Over four hundred air mail letters were mailed during this week which compares very favorable with other towns.

We are mostly working people, contrasts of great wealth and extreme poverty are not in our midst. Being mostly home owners, we like to think our town is the best place on earth to raise our families.
