Baden's First 100 YearsPage Seventy-three
While the steel industry affords most of us employment, other industries, public utilities, transportation, Government Service and the various professionals also number many of our people on their payrolls. About the only profession that lacks representation from among our people is that of politics. We have as yet furnished no politicians. Inasmuch as the men have failed so miserably, perhaps the women will take the hint. Baden is, shall we say, welfare conscious, as is attested by the number of those kind of organizations active in the community. It was one of the first to organize an Emergency Relief Association. It has its Red Cross representation, the American Legion and Auxilliary, the Women's Clubs, Senior and Junior, the Children's Aid Society, the Boy Scouts and Cubs, the Girl Scouts and the Volunteer Fire Department. The churches are the Methodist, Lutheran and Catholic, all of which have their own welfare organizations which in time of disaster combine hand in hand with the aforementioned nationally connected organizations. We can well be proud of all of them. Baden is roughly a mile and one-half square. It is one of the largest Boroughs in area in Beaver County. It is bounded on the north by Economy Township, on the east by Economy Township, on the south by Harmony Township, and on the west by the Ohio River. We have police and fire protection, street lights, and garbage and refuse collection the year round. We have recently improved our sanitary sewer system with the aid of the Federal Government and our sewers are now in first class shape. We have also had the help of the Federal Government in improving our water supply system. We own our water plant, located near the mouth of Tevebaugh Hollow, with the wells on Crow Island. The quality of our water has been improved so that at the present time we feel we have the best water for all around use to be found in the valley. Situated as it is, within easy commuting distances to the manufacturing communities of Beaver County and even to Pittsburgh, it is safe to say that when the nation prospers, Baden will prosper. The outlook for Baden is indeed optimistic. The world needs the products of Pittsburgh and Beaver Valley, and their industries need the type of people who live in Baden to run them. High above the beautiful (but sometimes turbulent) Ohio River, safe from floods, free from swamps, an excellent sewer and water system, with most city conveniences, and plenty of room to expand, Baden cannot help but attract the home builder. A great man once said "That which interest me most is just
